The research interests of the laboratory cover the area of systems science comprehensively ranging from the mathematical theories and algorithms of optimization, control, decision making to the practical interactive computer decision support systems as well as risk and technology assesment.

As a university institution the laboratory is unique in Finland. It is responsible for the graduate specialty of systems and operations research in the engineering physics and mathematics program and it gives basic courses in systems analysis and applied mathematics for all students of the Aalto University Schol of Science and Technology. The laboratory is also in charge of the Doctoral Program in Systems Analysis, Decision Making, and Risk Management.

We are generally interested in doctoral students as well as visiting researchers. The University also has a visiting professor program.

Visiting researchers and professors

The FiDiPro program offers a possibility for long term visits for professors.

We are also interested in engaging researchers on a short term basis to carry out joint research. Visitors can also be supported by our graduate school to give intensive courses. Please contact any of our professors.
